good books

the life-changing magic of tidying up by marie kondo (Neither title nor author name is capitalized on the book) was a quick read. Like so many other de-clutter books, she makes a good case for how free and uplifted we will feel after our homes are organized and minimalized. But Kondo’s process starts with a bit of a twist when she starts talking about each item having energy and the importance of touching each item as you ask yourself whether or not that item gives you joy. She says that you’ll KNOW the answer. This act of focusing on only what is important and joyful should not be a daily chore. Do it quickly…..once and for all. Discard first, then designate a place for each thing that remains.

She does recommend working through one category at a time, starting with clothes (every single item of clothing dropped in the middle of the floor), followed by books, papers, miscellaneous, and mementos. In the end your life will be transformed, and you’ll have the lifestyle that you want.
